About Sheriff Dennis:

Sheriff Anthony Dennis is a resident of Sumter, South Carolina, and was educated in Sumter School District #2.   Graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1976, he furthered his education receiving an Associates Degree in Criminology from Central Carolina Technical College and a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminology from Saint Leo College.

Sheriff Dennis is also a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy and the FBI National Academy, an 11-week advanced investigative and management course as well as Leadership Sumter.

A 21+ year veteran of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, he began his career in 1982 as a Sheriff's Deputy.   He was promoted to sergeant, then moved on to the position of Shift Lieutenant of the Patrol Division, where he was responsible for managing 7 officers.   He then assumed the responsibility as Commander of the Narcotics Division where he feels he made his greatest impact in law enforcement and to the residents of Sumter County.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office is centrally located in the city of Sumter, SC, 40 miles east of the Capital City of Columbia, SC.   Sumter has a population of approximately 110,000 and covers 636 square miles.   The Sheriff's Office employs 115 sworn officers and 10 administrative personnel.

The Sumter County Sheriff's Office, in partnership with the citizens, will enforce state laws and county ordinances, deter criminal activity, protect life and property and maintain order throughout the county.   Through innovative leadership and our dedication to providing quality services, the Sheriff's Office  will maximize the use of its resources to provide the highest quality service, which will aid in improving the quality of life for the citizens of Sumter County.
