About Major Metts:Major Metts started his career in law enforcement in the U.S. Air Force in 1984 as a drug & bomb dog handler in the military police. While working with the military police he served along with the U.S. Secret Service as a bomb dog handler protecting the President. He began working with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office in 1991 as a patrol officer. He was later instrumental in making many changes to the DARE program and worked his way up to Lieutenant before being promoted to Captain of administration, where he now serves as the Major. Major Metts is a graduate of the National FBI Academy. Major Metts is accountable for numerous administrative details for the Sheriff's Office. He is responsible for all aspects of the budget, to include accounts payable and receivable, fiscal year proposal, expenditure levels, and tracking revenue. He also coordinates all state and federal grants for various departments; acts as the purchasing officer for equipment; completes evaluations on department personnel; oversees the web page; maintains personnel files; public relations; recruitment program; and assists in Internal Affairs within the Sheriff's Office. About Major Florence:Major Larry Florence is a 21 year veteran of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. He began his career in 1984 as a reserve deputy and accepted a full-time position in October of 1984. He first served as a uniform deputy and worked his way through the ranks. His last position was Captain of the Uniformed Patrol Division. Major Florence currently oversees the criminal investigative division, narcotics division, and the victim assistance unit. Major Florence is passionate about his job and believes that by aggressively enforcing the drug laws, crime will be reduced. He is committed to ensuring that crime victims' rights are protected. The specialized divisions under his command cover a wide range starting with homicide, burglary, domestic violence, auto theft, arson, Juveniles, victim advocates and evidence. About Major Gardner:Major Hampton Gardner is a 21 year veteran of the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. He has worked his way through the ranks serving as a uniformed deputy in the patrol division, traffic division, COPS division, Crime Prevention Unit, and Civil Processing Division. He has been promoted from a deputy sheriff to a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and presently serves as Major of the Uniformed Division. He is a 1979 graduate of Hillcrest High School. He has an AA and a BA degree in Criminology and a Masters of Public Administration. He is a 1984 graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy. Major Gardner is the commander over all Uniform Divisions, which in-compasses Patrol, Traffic, K-9, Civil Processing, Family Court, Courtroom Security, Codes Enforcements, Animal Control, Reserve Deputy Program and State Constable Program. He has a wide range of responsibilities which directly effect day to day operations.
