Phone: (803) 436-2053 Community Oriented Policing Program:The Sumter County Sheriff's Office Community Oriented Policing Program is under the supervision of Captain Eddie Hobbs. This unit has the responsibility of working in a partnership with the citizens of Sumter. This program is designed to bring police officers and citizens together to prevent crimes and solve neighborhood problems through problem-solving and partnerships. They address problems as crime, fear, social disorder, and neighborhood decay. This program is designed for officers and neighborhoods to get together and discuss what problems may be occurring in there community. They work through the concerns together with law enforcement to solve the problems. This works by the community meeting once each month in their neighborhood at a central location to problem solve. Everyone in the neighborhood has a say so. Each community is represented by an area president who organizes the monthly meetings. Guest speakers are also asked to attend, which can range from the sheriff, crime prevention officer, animal control officers and many others.
