The Codes Enforcement Division is comprised of two full time deputies. They respond to calls of litter, weeds/grass/debris, and junk on private property within Sumter County. They do not have jurisdiction over structures such as houses and campers. Some of the investigations result in warnings, citations, and/or notices being posted. They utilize surveillance cameras in some “high litter” areas in an attempt to identify and subsequently charge offenders. Fines could range from $25 - $1000 plus jail or community service.
