Investigative Division:

Light Bar

Under the supervision of Captain James Turner , the responsibility of the Sumter County Investigative Division is to conduct a follow-up investigation of all reported felony offenses, and certain misdemeanor offenses, that occur in Sumter County. The objectives of the Investigation Division are (1) the identification and prosecution of individuals responsible for reported crimes and (2) the recovery of stolen property.

The Division is comprised of the following: Criminal Investigation, Juvenile, Fire Investigation, Crime Scene Technician, Criminal Domestic Violence, and Evidence Custodian.

Juvenile:

This team of deputies investigates all juvenile cases in the county that deal with child abuse and sexual assault cases. 436-2041 or 436-2040

Fire Investigation:

This unit consists of investigators who oversee illegal fires throughout the county.   Their main objective is to find the source of all uncontrolled fires. 436-2008 or 2005

Crime Scene Technician:

This unit is responsible for processing all crime for evidence such as fingerprints, blood, photos many other items which help solve many crime. 436-2016

Criminal Domestic Violence:

This section investigates all crimes dealing with violence directed toward spouses, children, girl or boyfriend, or anyone who may be related. 436-2046 or 436-2014

Evidence Custodian:

The Evidence Custodian is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of evidence brought in by sworn personnel.   The custodian receives, documents, and stores the property and evidence.   The Evidence Custodian is also responsible for the disposal, destruction or return of evidence and property brought in.  436-2042

Victim Assistance Officer:

The victim assistance officer provides many different services to the public.   They help interview victims who may have a hard time dealing with the events which have taken place.   They also go to crime scenes to help provide comfort and understanding of the trauma.   This office also provides assistance while victims attend court procedings.   If you are interested in more information contact:   (803)-436-2044
