Deputies assigned to courtroom security are responsible for protecting everyone who enters Sumter County Summary Court and Sumter County Judicial Center by conducting security screenings and by monitoring courtrooms during proceedings. These deputies also work closely with court personnel to ensure the safety and integrity of the judicial process.

Sumter County Sheriff’s Office provides courtroom security for the following types of cases: Rule to Show Cause, Emergency Protective Hearings, Domestic Abuse, Bench Warrants, Abuse and Neglect, Final Hearings, Order of Protection, Adoption, Criminal Offense by Juveniles, Drug Court Offenses, Department of Social Services cases and Parental Rights cases.

The following items are prohibited at Sumter County Summary Court and Sumter County Judicial Center: firearms, ammunition and explosive devices (including plastic or toy firearms); and sharp objects (inlcuding knives, nail files, etc.).

Prohibited items found during the screening process will be considered contraband and surrendered to Sumter County Sheriff's Office as abandoned property unless the individual agrees to leave the item in his or her vehicle.

Cell phones are allowed inside of the court buildings but must be on silent mode or turned off when entering a courtroom.

Tape recordings, photos and videos are not allowed inside of any courtroom unless approved by the presiding judge in written form.
